Celebrating Our Golden Years

Garth & Karen are very excited to invite you to join them in celebrating a milestone in their romantic journey and in turn be with them as they “tie the knot” on the 7^th February 2026. 

Their relationship together started 6 years ago down in Windsor where they met. A friendship developed that lead to a first date for dinner. Re-learning the whole dating game was an exciting experience in its own right for both of them. Fortunately, a Thai meal, good conversation and a suggestion that there may be a second date on the horizon set the foundation for a happy and strong bonding relationship to quickly develop. That relationship would include many lovely meals and new experiences together and a few amazing trips abroad. Karen now also has experience of seeing how a proper “Braai” is done and that BBQ’s in February and March in England are “normal” events for some 😊.

A romance was developing as they continued to meet. A long walk along the Thames on a gorgeous summer day and lunch in a local pub near Windsor was a defining “Date” that revealed their common relationship vision of making the best of their “golden years”, having fun, dreaming, holidays together and their love for the outdoors, would lead to learning more about each other, falling in love and a trip to South Africa…

Three trips to South Africa later as well as them both being fortunate enough to have some wonderful holidays together. Karen has fallen in love with Cape Town amongst other parts of South Africa. At the same time, Garth in the meantime also developed a love for Windsor and Eton, their history, famous landmarks and drinking establishments. 

In 2023, Karen made the big decision to leave her hometown and local job and settle with Garth in Newton, Nottinghamshire and so they continue their journey of new experiences, learning about each other, hobbies and new friends “up north.”  

And so, it came about in 2024, getting married in Cape Town would be a dream for both of them and now about to become reality and hopefully share in this special time with all their friends and family in the delightful area of Constantia.

On Xmas Day, 2024, Garth decided to pop the question to Karen. ”Do you think you can spend the rest of your life with me?” Fortunately, albeit Karen was completely taken by surprise, he received a resounding “Yes” and so they have decided to get married and look forward to celebrating their friendship, love and care for each other in South Africa with all their dear friends and family who have supported and celebrated their love for each other over the last 6 years.

As many of you will know, Garth & Karen are now Granny and Pop to 4 gorgeous off-spring courtesy of Grant, Jago and Devon and with whom they look forward to hopefully spending more time with in the future, whilst also continuing to travel and making the most of the good health they fortunately enjoy today.

They now are preparing to welcome as many of you as possible to celebrate their marriage in a beautiful part of Cape Town, Groot Constantia on a wine farm that dates back to 1685 and is one of the first established in the Western Cape.

Whilst they appreciate that for many it will mean long haul travel, they sincerely hope that as many of you as possible can join them!!
